Portraits.

This bit is ALL ABOUT you two. But it can be hard to squeeze in amidst the good times rolling all around you. I find that at least half of the couple always wants the portraits to be done and dusted as quickly as possible in order to get back to the party. And frankly, I couldn’t agree more.

I try and keep it short. Twenty minutes is more than enough time to get some amazing photos, but if you can spare forty minutes over the course of the day then that works perfectly. Even though there’s a party to get back to, almost all of my couples have said how much they enjoyed spending just a few moments of calm together. It really helps you catch your breath and enjoy your day.

I like to find somewhere away from the rest of the party and ask that it’s just you two and me so that you can really relax. We’ll talk about the best time to nip out and do this but if it’s bright sunshine, then we should wait until the evening when then the light will be much more flattering. We can provisionally plan the time beforehand, but we’ll try to go with the flow of the day.

If the light is absolutely beautiful later on, or I spot an amazing sunset, I might ask to borrow you again but we’ll make it quick. Shooting outside in natural light is my absolute favourite, but depending on where your venue is we can work with indoor portraits as well.

If you’re getting married late in the day, you might want to consider the concept of a ‘first
look’. Very popular with our friends across the pond, they can really help if it’s dark by the time the ceremony ends. Basically, it’s a chance to see each other in all your finery before the ceremony. It’s not for everyone, but it can be a fab opportunity to capture some gorgeous portraits at a really special time.

If you’d like to see some examples of a first look then email me and I’ll send you some over.

OH MAN, IS THIS THE BEGINNING OF

something fun.

IF I SUGGEST A LOCATION OR BACKDROP, JUST TRUST ME. I MIGHT HAVE A REALLY SPECIFIC IDEA OF WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE IN MY HEAD. I’M USUALLY LOOKING FOR THAT PHOTO THAT’S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT FROM WHAT’S BEEN SHOT AT THIS VENUE BEFORE.

IT’S GOOD TO BE DIFFERENT.

Your photos are a collaboration, I need your imput.

Give me 20 minutes and you’ll have portraits that you’ll look back on and still love in 20 years.

Relax, take a deep breath, trust me and give it your all, it’ll be worth it. I promise.

Not one couple I’ve ever worked with have been models, or if they were they certainly kept it quiet. Most are nervous, camera shy or both. Please don’t worry though, you’re in the best possible hands.

But what if it rains?

I know, it’s been playing on your mind and you’ve been checking the weather apps compulsively for weeks. But rain is not the end of the world, so don’t worry.

Some of my all-time favourite shots have been taken in a downpour and I can always get someone to stand over you with an umbrella if needs be. The British weather is no match for a creative photographer.
